"I have kept sketchbooks – spasmodically – ever since this was introduced to me as a daily activity while a student at Harrow School of Art in the 1960s. In the last few years, however, photography seemed to be an easy alternative for recording and documenting the world as I experienced it. But this is not the case: nothing comes close to the intense observation and interpretation entailed in drawing and sketching.
For preference I draw with watercolours and Artline-type pens in small, bound, hardcover sketchbooks."
